The 2020 World Triathlon Grand Closing in Edmonton has been cancelled as a result of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Worldwide Triathlon Union introduced the cancellation Friday, saying the worldwide pandemic has made it unimaginable to stage the occasion.
The races have been initially scheduled to happen Aug. 17-23.
“World Triathlon, together with the Edmonton Organising Committee, the Metropolis of Edmonton and all stakeholders and the group companions will proceed to work carefully collectively to seek out new choices for the occasion to happen sooner or later, when it’s protected to take action,” the ITU stated in a launch.
The 2019 World Grand Closing was held in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Edmonton has hosted a race on the ITU World Triathlon Sequence circuit yearly since internet hosting the Grand Closing in 2014.
