Canadian retailers saw higher sales in February before COVID-19 hit

Statistics Canada says retail gross sales rose in February for a fourth consecutive month as they climbed 0.three per cent to $52.2 billion, boosted by gross sales at motorized vehicle and components sellers and at normal merchandise shops.

The company says it was the primary time retail gross sales grew for 4 months in a row for the reason that interval ending in October 2018.

Gross sales at motorized vehicle and components sellers rose 1.1 per cent in February, whereas normal merchandise shops gross sales climbed 1.four per cent in February.

Excluding motorized vehicle and components sellers, retail gross sales had been unchanged for February.
